Lead Assistant

Guided by the mission and Charter of L’Arche, the Lead Assistant supports the overall wellness of adults with intellectual disabilities who receive care provision from L’Arche in a 24 hour group home setting. The Lead Assistant reports directly to the House Coordinator, and works alongside them to support medical appointments, core member (client) tracking, house meetings, and new assistant (caregiver) training shifts. The Lead Assistant is a leadership role that helps foster L’Arche values and participation in the wider community.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
DIRECT SUPPORT OF ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES
· Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs): hygiene, health, finances, recreation, personal, and spiritual growth
· Provide on average 32 hours of direct support a week, including but not limited to time training caregivers on core member (client) routines, especially on days that the House Coordinator is away. These hours may include supporting medical appointments as well as follow-up communication following these appointments in Therap, with providers, with families, and/or with the pharmacy.
· During onboarding for this role the percentage of time spent on direct support may be higher.
· Be part of an on-call rotation with other members of the Care Team. Respond to emergencies and critical events in the home as a part of these responsibilities.
· Proactively attend to household cleaning chores, including laundry, cooking, sweeping, sanitizing surfaces and bathrooms, taking out the trash/recycling, and washing dishes.
ADMINISTRATIVE SUPPORT TO HOUSE COORDINATOR
· Support petty cash review, documentation, and weekly financial audits
· Organize and contribute to paper filing needs, including annual Individual Support Plan (ISP) documentation and medical appointment records
· Edit the electronic medication administration record (MAR) in Therap in situations of a medication change, new medication order, or routine configuration of the next month’s MAR.
· Review pharmacy’s delivery of routine monthly cycle fill medications, and support reordering of medications as needed.
· Ensure core member (client) mail is checked regularly, responded to in a timely manner when applicable, and sorted / filed appropriately.
· Contribute to and remind teammates about daily, weekly, monthly, yearly goals outlined in core member’s ISPs. Review ISP activity tracking and support planning of goals across shifts.
