Frequently Asked Questions
If I’ve applied before, do I need to fill out the new application?
Yes, we are asking all applicants to complete the new application to Share Life in Our Homes.
For final candidates for our Montavilla home, an additional Residential Care application will need to be completed. If you have applied before, we can provide your previous application as an aid for completing sections that remain current for you.
How much does it cost to share life in a L’Arche home?
People living in our Montavilla homes pay $599/mo for Room & Board (rate set by the state of Oregon for people receiving residential care in adult foster care homes), which covers a single bedroom, shared bath, utilities, and three meals a day. This also includes program support for sharing life in a L’Arche home.
For the Montavilla homes, residential care payments, which are typically set by the Oregon Needs Assessment (ONA), cover assistance with Activities of Daily Life (ADL’s); support with cleaning, laundry, and medication management; and transportation to appointments and other activities. Private pay can also be negotiated.
We anticipate people living in our Beaverton home will pay a base $450/mo program fee, still pending approval of our property tax exemption for the house. Fees will cover room with basic furnishings, utilities, and program support for sharing life in a L’Arche home. The program fee may be more depending on the type of room(s) that a participant is occupying. House members are responsible for their own food, and will coordinate shared meals with other house members.
If I’m accepted to share life in a L’Arche home, is it a commitment for life?
L’Arche Portland asks everyone to make a one-year commitment with an openness to more. Sharing life in our homes is reviewed, discerned, and recommitted to annually.
Are there age requirements for living in your homes?
L’Arche homes are typically for adults at least 18-years of age. Our Beaverton home could potentially welcome families that include minors.
