As a member of the Community Team, the Community Coordinator supports the overall growth and direction of L’Arche Portland. Guided by the mission of L’Arche Portland, the Community Coordinator supports the daily life and activities of our homes, coordinates the recruitment and discernment process for people living and working in our homes, coordinates our volunteer program, and supports all community members in more fully living the mission of L’Arche.

Key Responsibilities:

COMMUNITY & HOMES

  • Support community events, programs, and activities for people living in our three homes, friends, family, extended community members, volunteers, and guests

  • Support house meetings, team meetings, and assistants meetings to discuss house and community culture, and the planning of house events, celebrations, retreats, and vacations

  • Support household responsibilities including cooking, maintenance of house and yard, maintenance of community vehicles, and record keeping

  • Meet regularly with the Director of Community Life and Community Team to assess and ensure the overall health and wellbeing of the community and homes

 RECRUITMENT, DISCERNMENT, WELCOME, & ORIENTATION

  • Manage recruitment and application platforms for advertising employment and volunteer opportunities

  • Coordinate the application and discernment process for each person applying to live in our homes

  • Participate in the community welcome and orientation of people entering our homes for the first time

 VOLUNTEER PROGRAM

  • Work with our homes to identify opportunities for volunteers to provide needed support

  • Facilitate the application process and orientation for new volunteers

  • Provide accompaniment and support to volunteers

  • Maintain accurate records of volunteer hours, and general attendance at community events

RELATIONSHIPS WITH ADULTS WITH INTELLECTUAL DISABILITIES

  • Develop and model natural support (distinct from paid direct support) relationships with adults with disabilities in our homes

  • Support people with intellectual disabilities with leadership opportunities at L’Arche Portland

  • Train to provide limited professional ADL (activities of daily living) support to adults
    with intellectual disabilities in our homes and at events

Reports To: Director of Community Life

Requirements:

  • Embraces the mission and values of L’Arche; previous L’Arche experience preferred

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Strong interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

  • Strong organizational skills

  • Maintain appropriate boundaries

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality

  • Current driver’s license preferred

  • Criminal record check (completed as part of the application process)

  • Current Basic First Aid and Adult CPR certification (completed as part of the application process)

  • Evening & Weekend Availability (typically one evening per week, and one Saturday morning per month)

Benefits:

  • Base wage - $18.00/hour (scheduled at 40hrs/week, with the opportunity for overtime)

  • Retirement: 5% employer contribution after one-year of full-time employment
