L’Arche Portland Spiritual Life Statement
L’Arche Portland is a community of faith composed of people of different faith traditions, spiritual paths, and intellectual abilities. We strive to live the teachings of Jesus, with a special emphasis on the Beatitudes. We are committed to living intentionally out of the deeply spiritual dimension of life.
Each member is called to be rooted and deepen in his or her chosen faith tradition or spiritual path, and to recognize, respect and nurture the underlying unity of all faith traditions, especially those practiced by our members. The richest expressions of this underlying unity are in the authentic and mutual relationships built through the joys and challenges of sharing daily life together.
We wish to be a living faith community, growing and evolving as each member shares the richness of his or her spiritual path and supports the spiritual journey of others. We seek ways to enrich and expand our understanding and experience of God through regular times of personal and communal prayer, retreat, and reflections. We wish to continue to develop an inclusive faith life that reflects L’Arche spirituality as expressed in the International Charter for the Federation of L’Arche, the Judeo-Christian foundation of the community, and the collective spiritual wisdom of our members.
